AFRW 2024-2025 BIENNIAL AWARDS

 

DEADLINE FOR REPORTING TO STATE FEDERATION

 AWARDS CHAIRMAN: 

Both statewide and individual club award must be submitted by 

September 26, 2025

          

AFRW clubs or members are eligible for eight (8) different awards to be announced at the

AFRW Biennial Convention Luncheon in Birmingham, Alabama on October 23–25, 2025.

  

 

 

THE MARY ELLEN MILLER AWARD

 

There will be 3 awards given:  Small Club Award for those clubs under 50 members, Medium Clubs with 50 – 100 members and a Large Club Award for those clubs with100+ members.   This award is for the Most Outstanding small, medium and large Clubs during the current biennial which runs from January 1, 2024- December 31, 2025.  Criteria for judging include membership development, campaign and political projects, community relations activities, number of meetings, and speakers.  Your application will consist of any information about your club you choose to submit plus the enclosed application. THE MARTHA FOY AWARD

 

This award is for the Most Valuable Member of the State Federation or Club during the 2-year period from 2024-2025.  Each club may submit one nomination for the member who best exemplifies the Republican Woman.  She should have a leadership role in the club or federation, be active in local, state, or national campaigns, and uphold the objectives of the National Federation of Republican Women and the Alabama Federation of Republican Women.  The committee may consider any outstanding AFRW member.

 

To make an application, please submit your nominee’s resume or bio along with your letter of recommendation to Kathy Murray, 7902 Corvette Dr. SE, Huntsville, AL 35802 by September 26, 2025.

 

 

THE JEAN SULLIVAN AWARD

 

This Award goes to the club member with the most campaign and volunteer hours from July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025.  The time matches the National Federation’s period. Click here for the application.

 

 

AFRW’S UNIT CLUB NEWSLETTER AWARD

 

This award goes to the club with the best newsletter for the period of January 1, 2024 – July 31, 2025.  To be eligible, a club must send newsletters at least six (6) times per year. Newsletters will be judged on composition, layout, features, and topics covered.  

 

Please send one printed copy of three (3) of your best newsletters (please print email newsletters) from January 1, 2024 – July 31, 2025 to Kathy Murray, 7902 Corvette Dr. SE, Huntsville, AL 35802 by September 26, 2025.    

 

 

MEMBERSHIP AWARD 

This award will be given to the club with the highest percentage of membership growth from January 1, 2024, to September 26, 2025.     

 

To be eligible, the club charter date must be on or before January 1, 2024.  All names submitted to the state treasurer along with proper membership dues by September 26, 2025 will count. There is no form for this award, as the winner will be determined by membership number increases or percentage increases. 

 

 

CARING FOR AMERICA AWARD

 

Federation club members are patriotic, committed to uplifting our nation through our devotion and acts of service to our Country and Flag; and are caring, responsible leaders in their communities who enthusiastically provide help and assistance where needed.  This award recognizes the energy, talent, and time devoted to furthering the patriotic ideals of all that our Country represents, as well as the dedicated care and concern of AFRW Clubs as they selflessly respond to the needs of their communities.  To be eligible, the club must have completed one major project in the 2-year period. You may use the same criteria and application as the NFRW Award.  It can be found at www.NFRW.org on the member’s page and ideas can be found on the NFRW blog at http://nfrwcaringforamerica.org/.

ARMED SERVICES AWARD

 

Our goal for “Armed Services” is to encourage Republican women to take pride in supporting the United States of America's Military (Active Duty, National Guard, Reserves, Veterans, and their families).  In addition, we want to promote veterans to run for political offices.  All clubs are encouraged to select a project that will make a difference to members of our Armed Services.  

 

Please use the same criteria you submitted for the NFRW award and submit to  Kathy Murray, 7902 Corvette Dr. SE, Huntsville, AL 35802 by September 26, 2025.

  

 

  

PUBLIC RELATIONS AWARD

 

AFRW must have a strong, viable presence at the local and state level.  This is achieved through outstanding public relations by our clubs.  The Public Relations Award is designed to motivate unit clubs and honor them for their efforts to improving Federation visibility and Federation accomplishments.  To enter, submit a detailed report of your clubs’ public relations activities.  You may send press releases, news clippings, web page information, newsletter, photos, and any other examples of how your club communicates with the media, membership, elected Republican officials, county executive committees, and local community groups.

 

 Examples of Public Relations Initiatives:

  1. Improving communication tools, i.e., web site, newsletter, Twitter, blogs, Facebook pages, updates to membership via e-mail, fax, or mail. 

  2. Hosting a candidate debate or forum 

  3. Well publicized political programs 

  4. Promotional materials for membership 

  5. Workshops on how to relate to media. 

  6. Building coalitions with other political groups, YRs, CRs or County Party 

  7. Providing opportunities to showcase your club’s leadership and elected women.

  8. Participating in parades, fairs, or community rallies etc. 

  9. Other inventive initiatives

All Awards Winners will be recognized during the 2025 Awards Luncheon at the AFRW Convention. Each club is strongly encouraged to participate. This is a way for your membership to get the recognition they deserve for all their hard work.  Even though there is only 1 winner in each category, your applications recognize the hard work of your members.
